Sandra Child Obituary

There is a common saying: Strong women: may we be one, may we know them and may we raise them. This is a fitting framework of the life of Sandra K Child (Deiters) of Allouez, who passed away on March 24, 2024.

Sandy was born on April 7, 1938 in Marinette, Wisconsin to Teunis (Lutz) and Gretchen (Phillips-James) Deiters. She grew up in a humble home with two older sisters and a younger brother. She graduated from Marinette High School in 1956.  She left the following year to join the U.S. Navy. On September 15, 1962 she married Myrl L. Child. From there the two would remain together for 61 years raising a family, running a business and traveling but her true happiness came when she was surrounded by friends and family telling stories, playing games, singing, reminiscing and editorializing on current political and social happenings.

After settling back in Wisconsin in 1971 in Waterford and then to Green Bay in 1980, Sandy had a career working at local banks and eventually retiring from the Green Bay and Western railroad. She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women association holding various leadership roles.

Sandy is survived by her husband Myrl, children Jeff (Wendy) Child and Laura (Tom) Hensley. Grandchildren: Nicole Halverson, Kendall (David) Taylor; Lucas, Eric and Anna Moser and 2 great grandsons. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Deb Bilzing. She was a special “Aunt Sandy” to many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law Laura and Robert Huffman; Constance and Richard Armbrust and brother Michael Deiters and his daughter Sara.
