Theodore "Ted" Houle Obituary

Theodore “Ted” J. Houle, 92, of Green Bay, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Jack and Ingrid Meng Residence in DePere.

Ted was born on September 2, 1931 in Watersmeet, MI to the late Theodore J. and Carrie (Britton) Houle. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose High School in Ironwood, MI. He furthered his education at Northern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, majoring in math. While in school, he played on the boys basketball team where he set the record for scoring the most points in a half. Ted held this record until just recently. After earning his Bachelors Degree, Ted continued on and obtained his Masters Degree in School Administration from Northern Michigan University.  On June 8, 1957, he married Jane E. Nashland. Ted devoted his working career to education, taking great pride in being an educator and retiring as Principal of Ashwaubenon High School.

Ted was an active member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, where he served as a Lector. He was an avid Brewer and Packer fan, enjoyed golfing, softball and cherished time spent with family and friends. Ted loved people and had an incredible memory, and was able to easily recall names and past stories of his friends, colleagues, and students he taught. He truly had the “gift to gab”. Ted was a beautiful soul with a heart of gold, which was evident to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His positive outlook on life, regardless of the situation, never wavered.

Ted is survived by his wife: Jane Houle; children: Brian (Lori) Houle, Bonnie Schaefer, and Beth (Tom) Eggert; grandchildren: Sean (Holland) Houle, Samantha (special friend Evan) Houle, Casey (Maria) Houle, Brady (special friend Michelle) Houle, Cody (Rachelle) Schaefer, Hailey (special friend Taylor) Schaefer, Madeline Eggert, Carly Eggert, and Carter Eggert; great-grandchildren: Connor, Miles, Oakley, Hudson, and Wilder; brother: Dr. Thomas (Mary Jane) Houle, and sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Wegerbauer, Gladys Somers, Linda Nashland, and Judy Groonwald. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Ted was preceded in death by his parents: Theodore and Carrie Houle; brother: Dr. Ronald Houle; sister: Rita (Dick) Kreucher; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Walter and Evelyn Nashland; sister-in-law: Dorothy Maki; and brothers-in-law: Walter “Buzz” Nashland and Carl Groonwald.
