Joseph Aschenbrenner Obituary

Joseph A. Aschenbrenner, De Pere, age 62, died at his home on Thursday, September 13, 2018, surrounded by his family, after a courageous 4 ½ year battle with cancer.  He was born in Green Bay on October 17, 1955 to the late Harvey and Mary Pat (Ley) Aschenbrenner.  Joe attended West De Pere High School, he was on the honor roll all through school and graduated in 1974.  After graduation Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served as a Mechanic on the C-5 Galaxy and C-141 Starlifter from 1974 to 1978 at McChord AFB Tacoma, Washington.  In November of 1978 is started his Truck Driving career with Schneider Transport. On May 2, 1981 Joe married Lisa Arcand at Our Lady of Lourdes in De Pere.  He drove for Schneider Transport for 34 years. He retired from Schneider Transport in March of 2012 and two days later started driving for Wal-Mart until he lost his battle with cancer. Joe loved driving truck. He loved driving early in the morning, when no one else was around so he could enjoy the beauty and peaceful feeling of his surroundings. He also enjoyed meeting and talking to the people he would meet. Joe loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed lecturing them on the lessons of life, even if they didn’t. Joe loved airplanes and attending the EAA.  He enjoyed tinkering on lawn mowers, tractors and snow blowers as well as gardening and caring for his koi pond. Joe enjoyed having his dogs around him.  Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 230.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 801. 

Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lisa; son, William “Buddy”  Aschenbrenner, De Pere; mother-in-law, Carolyn Arcand, Gillett; brothers:  Mike (special friend Rae), Green Bay; Ralph (Beth), Hobart; and Dennis (Geralyn), Hobart; sister, Lou Ann (Joe) Bloemer, De Pere; and brothers and sisters-in-law:  Cathy Nelsen, Barbara Arcand, Green Bay; Steve (Debbie) Arcand, Suamico;  Allen (Donna) Arcand, Gillett; Curt (Lori) Arcand, Rochester, MN and Dan (Colleen) Arcand. Gillett.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald J. Arcand; and nephew, Nick Nelsen. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at LYNDAHL FUNERAL HOME, 1350 Lombardi Ave. Green Bay, beginning at 4:00 p.m. until time of vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue Thursday, September 20, 2018 at NATIVITY OF OUR LORD PARISH, 2270 S. Oneida St. Green Bay, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.  The Rev. Michael Ingold will officiate.  Military honors, conducted by the American Legion Post 230 will immediately follow.  Committal Allouez Catholic Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy, memories and photos may be shared with Joe’s family on his tribute page at www.lyndahl.com.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ryan and the entire staff at Green Bay Oncology for their excellent care; Lisa’s brother and sister-in-law, Curt and Lori for always being there for them during our many visits to the Mayo Clinic; Niece Erica Braden for being there for her uncle no matter what time of day it was; Mary from United Health Care for her continual caring support she gave to Joe during stressful times; and Especially to Katherine Price, M.D. who told him 4 ½ years ago that you never give up and that she was there to fight with him and for him. And that is what she and the Mayo oncology staff did. They gave him 4 more years than the 6 months he was originally given.
