Allan J. “Al” Kimber, age 82, Green Bay, died at home on Thursday, January 23, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.
He was born on a farm in Ellison Bay, WI, on June 8, 1942 to the late Allan S. and Dorothy (Charney) Kimber. Al was raised in the Brussels area by his mother and stepfather (Hugo Schmidt), the only dad he ever knew. He graduated from Brussels High School, Vocational School, and attended college in Platteville. On June 11, 1973 he married the former Darleen Kaemmer in Green Bay. He spent 37 years working for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Highways in the Green Bay District, retiring in 1998. He loved flower gardening and traveling. In his younger days he also loved playing cribbage and dart ball.
Al is survived by his wife Darleen, Green Bay, daughter and son-in-law Amy (Josh) Dorner, Green Bay, 2 grandchildren Hallie Hatfield and Timothy Dorner, half-sisters Patricia Schmidt and Vicki Matuszak, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mom, dad, biological father, father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold and Lillian Kaemmer, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Virginia (Melvin) Kuhlow.
A funeral service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Rd., at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025 with Pastor Ben Williams officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm. Entombment will be in the Fort Howard Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum.
