Benita Marjorie Blomiley passed away peacefully on January 19th, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by her family.
She was born on February 19, 1933, to Ben and Marjorie Held in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She was very close to her older sister, Muriel, with a bond that would remain throughout their lives. As a family they enjoyed gardening, travel, and music.
She met Bob, who would become her loving husband of 71 years, on campus at the Wisconsin State College of Stevens Point, where they both studied and eventually received degrees in education. While at school, Bob left to join the Army. While on leave, Bob returned to get married. They were married on Christmas Eve, 1953. After their marriage, Bob finished his service and completed his education. Benita was an elementary teacher for several years before leaving to raise their three children.
Benita was full of life and love for her family and friends. She was spunky, kind, and supportive. She had no problem being silly and goofy and was always up for something fun. Aside from her family, her biggest love was music. She played the piano and organ, and for 20 years performed the organ during services at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. At home it was not uncommon to hear her singing while music played throughout the house.
Benita leaves behind a family who loved and treasured her. She is missed by her husband Bob, their 3 children, Sara, Erin, and Eric; Eric’s wife, Yunjun; Erin’s husband, Winston; and her grandchildren, Devan, Jared, and Jordan. She is also survived by her nephew Scott and his wife Linda.
For years, Benita had been very clear that she did not want a funeral, opting instead for a gathering of family and friends. To honor her request, the family will gather with wine, food, laughter, love, and countless memories.
We couldn’t have asked for a better mom, wife, and grandma.
