Calvin (Cal) Rose, a man who lived with an undeniable devotion to his family, work, and church, was reunited with his Lord on January 14, 2025, when he passed away at the age of 89.
Cal was born at home on the family dairy farm on August 20, 1935, being the fifth of six children to Adolph and Hildegard (Danz) Rose. Cal married Barbara Brereton on June 10, 1957. Cal and Barbara enjoyed over 57 years of marriage before Barbara’s passing on January 10, 2016.
As a child Cal worked on the family farm in Bellevue near the East River. He also worked as a vendor at the Farmer’s Market with his family, selling vegetables and produce.
Cal graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1953 and was proud of the fact that he never missed a day of school. In addition, Cal graduated from the International Accountant Society as an Advanced Accountant and also enhanced his education by taking technical college courses in accounting.
In 1957, Cal spent six months in active duty in the Army and then spent three years in the Army Reserves.
Cal greatly enjoyed his work as an accountant. He started working at Fairmont Foods in Green Bay in March 1954, and met his wife Barbara while they both worked at Fairmont. Cal also worked for Fairmont in Rapid City, SD, Omaha, NE, and Coshocton, OH before eventually moving back to Green Bay. He then worked for Morning Glory Dairy in De Pere until his retirement in July of 1999.
After retiring, Cal and Barbara spent winters in Florida, where Cal enjoyed golfing and taking frequent walks. Cal was always in excellent shape and even managed to shoot a hole-in-one on the golf course.
Cal and Barbara were original members of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Green Bay. Cal was the treasurer of Beautiful Savior for 17 years. Throughout their life together, Cal and Barbara also took care of over fifty foster babies while raising their own family.
In his free time, Cal greatly enjoyed spending time with his family at his cabin near Pembine. He also went on many fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada with his son-in-law Brad Baeten. Cal and Barbara also went on trips to Hawaii, Brazil, France, England, Greece, Italy, and Hong Kong.
Cal was very outgoing and a great husband and father. When his daughter Debbie was fighting cancer, Cal was always there to sit by her side during countless chemo treatments.
Cal is survived by his loving children: daughter Barb (Brad) Baeten and son Joseph (Jodie) Rose, grandsons: Justin, Nicholas and Vince Rose; Sister Gladys Larsen and brother David (Shirley) Rose; son-in-law Jim Hayes; sisters-in-law: Judy Gauthier and Sandy Rose; along with many nieces and nephews, and good friend Bea Buchholz.
Cal was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara; Daughter: Debra Rose; brothers: Harold and Marvin Rose; and sister Esther Janssen.
A funeral service will be held Saturday January 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2160 Packerland Drive, Green Bay with Reverend John Jordan officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and continue until the time of service at 11:00 am.
