Carl Lovlien Obituary

Carl Thomas Lovlien, 93, of Green Bay, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2022, in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by his family.

Carl was born May 3, 1928, in Pigeon Falls, WI to Alfred and Selma (Haugen) Lovlien. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Lewiston, MN. Carl attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Industry in 1950. He was a member and president of the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity during his time at ISU.

Carl proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. On April 5, 1952, Carl married Maryann Wood of Rochester, MN. They had four children: Thomas, Andrew, Jon, and Martha. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2002. Carl’s career in dairy industry took him to Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona, and Wisconsin. In 1972 he became the production manager for Morning Glory Dairy in Shawano, WI, and later in De Pere, WI. He remained in this position until his retirement.

Carl was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church; he was part of the group known as the “Grumpy Old Men,” serving the church doing odd jobs and building upkeep. He also took great pride in caring for the church grounds and shrubs in front of the church.

Carl and Maryann were members of Sons of Norway. Carl enjoyed gardening, camping, and volunteering at Unity Hospice.

Carl is survived by his children and grandchildren: Thomas Lovlien [Marnie (Cully) Williams, Joseph Lovlien,]; Andrew (Sandy) Lovlien, [Michael Lovlien, Andrea Lovlien]; Jon (Lynn) Lovlien, [Katie (Jim) Daley, Erin (Matt) Harris]; and Martha Boese; [Carl Boese, Laura (Matt) Johnson, Daniel (Rachel) Boese]; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard Lovlien of California. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters, and his wife, Maryann.
