COL Charles "Chuck" Rubin Peterson, age 90, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025.
Chuck was born on April 3, 1935. He was known as a son, artist, soldier, husband, father, brother, foster father, grandfather, great-grandpa, teacher, professor, photographer, director of programs, explorer, traveler, board member, business owner, hunter, tree farmer, ROMEO and church member and chief delegator of tasks. However, you knew him, you could never forget him.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Rubin Peterson, and wife Darlene. He leaves behind brother John (Beth); children, Mark (Joanne), Sandy (Dan), Bob (Melissa), Paul, Daniel, Lisa, over 200 foster children; current wife Janet, stepson Brian (DeAnn) and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, friends, and students.
Chuck served in the Army and Reserves for decades, he taught in Mukwonago and East Division High School in Milwaukee, and at St Norbert College, as Professor of Art and Art Education. He traveled to Australia many times, documenting rock art and being ultimately adopted by the senior tribal elder. He also established a program (Young Artist Workshop) for disabled youngsters that ran for 15 years at St Norbert College in the summers, allowing disabled children to participate and experience art, music, and dance.
Many thanks to HSHS St Vincent and Unity Hospice for their care and compassion, and our dear aid Sally Bunker, who made these years at home possible.
