Clarence Mickelson Obituary

Heaven gained one of the happiest souls on August 12, 2025, just 14 days shy of his 97th birthday.  Clarence Mickelson was born August 26, 1928 to the late Anton and Helena (Anderson) Mickelson in Green Bay, WI.

Clarence graduated from GB East High school in 1947 and spent his career working at James River Corporation (aka American Can Company, Northern Paper Mill, eventually acquired by Georgia Pacific Corporation) where he worked in Shipping for 39 years until his retirement in 1991. He also served in the National Guard Reserve from 1949-1957.

He was united in marriage to Carol R. Klahn on Sept. 18, 1954 and they had 64 wonderful years together until her death in 2018.

Clarence was one of the longest active members of First Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir and was a dedicated volunteer and organizer of the church pantry for many years.

Clarence loved traveling and camping and he and Carol traveled to all 50 states together. They loved playing cards and board games and spending time with the grandkids.  He also enjoyed building toys, trains, and gardening.

Clarence’s constant smile, quick laugh, and good heart touched many over the years and he will be sadly missed by everyone especially daughter Teresa “Terri” (Dave) Picard, of Dunnellon, Florida and Daniel (Deborah) Mickelson, of North Aurora, Illinois; grandchildren Joseph (Mary), Jacob, Sarah, Joshua, and Jonell Mickelson, great grandchildren Lily and Jack, along with many loving friends.

In addition to his parents and loving wife Carol, Clarence was preceded in death by infant daughter Julie Ann, sisters Alice Mickelson, Marcella (Leonard) Bubolz, Camilla (Dewey) Stange, and Bernice (Marvin) Muehl, and  brother Ray (Lorraine) Mickelson.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church (200 S. Ashland Ave.).  Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Katie Estes with burial to take place at Nicolet Memorial Gardens at a later time.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Lyndahl Funeral Home (1350 Lombardi Ave.) on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 4:00 p.m.  until 6:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at 11:00 a.m.

Clarence’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at Woodside Manor and Unity Hospice for the excellent support and care given to Clarence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church pantry would be appreciated.
