Clifford Berg Obituary

Clifford Berg passed away on June 22, 2024 at the age of 98. Clifford was born September 24, 1925 to Peter and Mary (Theisen) Berg in the town of Little Wolf, WI in Waupaca County. He served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. On September 20, 1944 he was wounded on the island of Peleliu in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon and Marine Presidential Unit Citation, Marine Corps Good Conduct, American Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and World War II Victory medals.

Clifford was a truck driver for A & P and Super Valu, retiring in October 1987.  Following retirement, Cliff cleaned and bartended at Cropsey’s.  He was a member of Local 75 Retired Teamsters, Super Valu Retirees, Disabled American Veterans Green Bay Chapter 3 and American Legion Chapter 66, Silver Cliff. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay.  He was an usher, member of the Holy Name Society and Athletic Club and Boy Scout leader (Troop 1010). Over the years, Cliff enjoyed bowling, gardening, golfing until the age of 96 ¾, and playing cards with his card group.

He married Dorothy Patton on August 21, 1948. She preceded him in passing on May 28, 2019 after 70+ years of marriage. He is survived by his children: Barbara (Tom) Frisque, Michael (Barbara) Berg, Carol (Rob) Gezella, Kathleen Woodke, Allan (Kim) Berg and Linda (John) Katers; sisters: Lucille (Bob) Mayer and Verna Hanold, and sister-in-law: Lucille Patton.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Louis (Evelyn), Melvin (Margaret), Carl (Joyce) and John (Vi) Berg; sisters: Mary Wiedrich, Doris (Dean) Delahaut, Dorothy (Terry) O’Hearn and Irene Berg; one grandchild: Candace Berg; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Edith (Levi) Carter, Catherine (Joe) Vercauteren, Dan (Tillie) Patton, Margaret (Edward) Wallschlaeger, Joseph Patton, Rose Mary (James) Manning, Earl (Margerite) Patton, Florence (Tony) Servais, and Pat (Jack) Ambrosius.

A funeral service to celebrate Clifford’s life will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1224 12th Ave., concluding with military honors. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, with a prayer service being held at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, July 1, 2024 at the CHURCH from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Clifford will be laid to rest at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.
