Don Lundin Obituary

April 26, 1936 – April 12, 2025

Don Richard Lundin, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Emerald Bay Assisted Living in Hobart, Wisconsin.

Born on April 26, 1936, in Iron River, Michigan, Don was the son of Edward Lundin Jr. and Eleanor Lundin (Nelson). He graduated from Iron River High School in 1955, where he was active in sports. Don received a college football scholarship to Northern Michigan University, where he earned his degree in 1960. He went on to earn his master’s degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin–Stout.

On May 19, 1956, Don married his high school sweetheart, Nina Mae Ohman. Together they built a life full of love, commitment, and shared adventures. They raised three children: Mike Lundin (Jenny), Pat Lundin (DeAnn), and Mary Ann Lundin-Gillis (Tony).

Don began his career in education in Ontonagon, Michigan, where he taught industrial arts and coached track, basketball, and football. He and his family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1964, where he continued his teaching and coaching at Southwest High School. He later served as assistant principal from 1978 to 1981, and then as principal until his retirement in 1994. Don was a dedicated educator and mentor who made a lasting impact on generations of students and staff.

Don found immense joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, and cherished time with family at their beloved cottage on Golden Lake. After retirement, he and Nina enjoyed traveling together and spending winters at their home in Sun City West, Arizona. Don was an active member of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, where he mentored students and participated in many community activities. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, and truly valued the bonds he formed wherever he went.

A man of deep faith, Don was also a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Green Bay. He served faithfully on the Pastoral Committee, the Building Committee, and the Church Session. His faith was evident in the way he lived, led, and loved.

Don was a talented craftsman with a gift for woodworking, metalworking, drafting, and electrical work. He was the kind of person who could fix anything—and usually did. He believed in and exemplified the values of trust, integrity, honesty, leadership, and sportsmanship. He held these qualities in the highest regard and instilled them in his children as part of the legacy of the Lundin name.

Don had a special place in his heart for dogs. He especially loved his grand-puppies and treated every dog like part of the family. Whether it was a loyal hunting companion or a visiting pet, Don was happiest with a dog by his side and was always quick with a treat or a gentle scratch behind the ears.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Mae—they would have celebrated their 69th anniversary this year—his children and their spouses; seven grandchildren—Jon Lundin (Rachael), David Lundin (Lizzy), Kara Seefeldt (Jordan), Abby Lundin, Zack Gillis (Natalia), Katie Crouse (Camren), and Joshua Gillis; and nine great-grandchildren: Lily Lundin and PJ Lundin (Jon), Mikal Lundin and  Elin Lundin (David), Olive Seefeldt and Reid Seefeldt (Kara), Sutton Gillis and Stazzi Ann Gillis (Zack), and Hunter Crouse (Katie). He is also survived by his sisters, Marcia Cornelia and Ruth Ann Johnson, and his sister-in-law, Terri Lundin (Howard), as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Howard Lundin, Gary Lundin, and Keith Lundin; his sisters-in-law Jean Lundin (Gary) and Janice Lundin (Keith); his brothers-in-law, Roland Cornelia and Dennis Johnson; and his father-in-law, Ramsdell Ohman, and mother-in-law, Erma Ohman.
