Florence Trondson Obituary

Florence Duaan Trondson (Isaacson), 85, of Green Bay, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021. She was born in Negaunee, Michigan on February 9th, 1936 to Eino Leonard Isaacson and Hilma Eileen Isaacson (Anderson). Florence graduated from Negaunee High School in 1953. After high school, she attended Augustana Nursing School in Chicago, Il. She graduated with her nursing degree in 1956. That same year, she married the love of her life, Paul Theodore Trondson (1934-2017) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. Paul and Florence had five children. While raising a family, Florence worked as a nurse for 42 years. She worked at F.A. Bell Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Menomonee Falls Memorial, St. Mary’s Hospital and Manor Care West. Florence worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years and retired from there in 1999. Florence was known for wearing her white nurse’s cap for her entire career even when they went out of fashion. She was dedicated to patient care, the advancement of women in the field of health care, and was a pioneer in the early movement of working mothers. Even into her retirement, she continued to volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital in their breast care center.

Florence was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them. Her home is a life-sized photo album of cherished family memories. She loved her family very much and always brought them together for birthdays and holidays. She enjoyed the chatter and activity of the family gathering together. The noisier the better! She liked to laugh, hug, and spoil family with treats, thoughtful gifts, and kindness. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, gardening, staying connected through hand-written cards, and picking rocks on the shores of Lake Superior. She couldn’t leave a Lake Superior beach without a pocketful of rocks! Florence was a person of strength and determination. She was proud of her FInnish heritage and embodied the meaning of Sisu. She always made a house a home. She always made a stranger into a friend. She always saw the glass half full instead of half empty. Her presence radiated love and compassion. Florence was a faith-filled woman who prayed daily, treasured the wisdom of Scripture and trusted the Lord in all things. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church for over 40 years and she gave thanks for the many friendships that she had through the church. In her retirement, Florence volunteered for many years as a member of Calvary’s Quilters. She was glad to be a part of the thousands of people they helped around the world. Florence was also known to take blood pressures at church, volunteer for Vacation Bible School and help with Calvary’s monthly newsletter.

There is much to say about Florence’s life and the impact she had on her family, friends, patients and community. She will be greatly missed. We wish we could have had more time with her but we have solace in that she is with her beloved husband, Paul, in heaven, resting among the Saints.

Florence is survived by her children: Kelly Trondson, Kristine (Mark) Best, Paul (Vanessa) Trondson, Kari (Joseph) Taylor, and Katy (Timothy) Tomlanovich; her six grandchildren, Melissa Trondson, Michael Taylor, Taylor Trondson, Ashley Trondson, Benjamin Best, and Grace Tomlanovich; and many special cousins and friends. Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents, her sister Gloria, and her granddaughter, Jennifer.

Due to the pandemic, the family will have a private visitation and funeral on Monday, March 8th, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Calvary Lutheran Church, attention Quilters or Food Pantry.
