Frances Engleman Obituary

Mrs. Frances (Blair) Engleman, 102 has passed away on to a better place at 1pm, Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Frances was born on December 4, 1919 to Lois Irene Stamps and Theodore Churchill Lanier in Nashville, TN. She was adopted by William and Myrtle (Haulbrook) Blair shortly after. She came up during the Great Depression and as a result of her fathers early death, had to drop out her senior year in high school to go to work. Thus began her 33 ½ year career with the Bell Telephone System, from Nashville to Los Angeles to Manitowoc, and finally to Marinette where she retired from in 1970.

Frances met Louis Engleman shortly before Pearl Harbor and, after he returned from the Army, they met again through mutual friends. One week later, on August 9, 1946, they were married in Yuma, AZ. A marriage that was to last until Louis’ death in 2002. They had many good years together of travel, growing huge gardens, fishing, deer hunting and enjoying their many friends and relatives.  Frances was a past member of the Red Hot Hatters, and also a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and CWA.

Frances is survived by her daughter: Carol (Engleman) Strombeck; son-in-law: Jack Strombeck; sister-in-law: Wanda (Czech) Engleman; special nieces: Joyce (Blair) Mitchell, Diane (Kaye) Paynter and Jeanne Kaye, Sandra (Engleman) Steinhaus; special nephew: Antone Engleman, Jr.; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother and sister-in-law: Edward and Mae Blair; two half sisters: June Beckham Lanier Wagner and Barbara Lanier McGee.

A funeral service to celebrate Frances’ life will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 6:00 pm at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., with Rev. Diane Rew officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm. Frances will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Allouez.
