Gareth (Gary) Skar, Age 87, of Green Bay passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a long illness.
Gary was born February 26, 1938 to the late Oris and Beatrice (Judkins) Skar. He married LaVonne (Bonnie) DeGrand on December 12, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church. She proceeded him in death on November 16, 2001. Gary was a 1955 Graduate of Green Bay East High School. While in high school, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves. Upon high school graduation he reported for active duty, he then went on to complete twenty years of service in the Navel Reserves. Gary retired from the Navel Reserves with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his service Gary earned numerous medals. The Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, The Naval Reserve Medal, The National Defense Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
Upon returning from active duty, Gary joined the family business, Skar Refrigeration, where he worked alongside his father and his brother Bud, eventually taking over ownership with his brother Bud until his retirement in 1999. He came out of retirement briefly and worked part time at Precision Graphics, doing shipping.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, taking his boat out fishing, playing cards, and bowling. Gary also loved spending time with his closet friend, Gary Grathen and the Grathen family, at their hunting cabin. He loved his turtle sundaes, brought to him by his “favorite child” for that day.
Gary was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Gary will be greatly missed by his four children and their spouses. Karen Skar, Wayne (Kim) Skar, Brad(Laurel) Skar, and Julie Pryes. Grandchildren, Christopher, Melissa, Jeremy, Courtney, Sarah, and Aimee. His Great Grandchildren, Rileigh, Joshua, Enzo, Marley, and Samuel. Sister-in-law, Lynn (Vannes) Skar.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda Rose Skar, and his Great Grandson, Landon Pryes. His Brothers, Oren Skar and Everett (Bud) Skar. His Sisters-in-law Lynn Shemick, Carole Wood, and Darlene Broekman.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at the Lyndahl Funeral Home. 1350 Lombardi Ave.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home, 1350 Lombardi Ave, on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m. With Pastor Rachel from Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Gary will be laid to rest at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
