Gary Johnson Obituary

Gary J. Johnson, 78 of Abrams, WI, passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2022, at Bellin Memorial Hospital. Gary was born June 21, 1944, in Green Bay to the late Wilbert and Mildred (Erickson) Johnson. He graduated with the class of 1962 from Green Bay West High School.


On March 2, 1968, he married his co-pilot in life, Kathleen Bauer, and recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. Together they have three daughters Julie (Chris) Kwilinski, Pulaski, Jodie (Roger) Coffey, Celina, TX, their children, Ericka, Justin, and Gabby. Jamie (Damein) Winans, and their daughter Lillian, who shared a birthday with Gary, and one Great grandchild, Keenan.

Gary joined the U.S. Coast Guard right out of high school. After returning home he went to work for Proctor & Gamble as a Papermaker for 35 years. He acquired his private pilot’s license and started flying for Transnorth Aviation, performing air ambulance and charter flights. Gary was a man of extensive hobbies: Racquetball, golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and RVing, home construction, hobby farming, Go-Kart racing with young children and teenagers. He further loved his flying of airplanes and went on to be the Owner of the Pulaski Airport where he and his wife built an ultralight airplane. Later he built another airplane in his basement and garage. He was the greatest supporter of his grandkids in all their sports they played. He then decided to slow down and become a snowbird in Texas and Florida for 6 years.
 
Survivors include his wife:  Kathleen Johnson; his three daughters, four grandchildren and a great grandchild. He is further survived by two sisters: Joanie (Alan) Tonnon, Vicky (Tom) McIntyre; and one brother: Dan (Gail) Johnson. Kathleen's five brothers and their wives.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Todd Johnson; Mother and Father-in-law: Joseph and Lillian Bauer of Fond du Lac, WI.

A visitation to celebrate Gary’s life will occur on Sunday July 10, 2022, at Lyndahl Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, Green Bay, from 12:00 pm till 2:00 pm. Cremation has taken place and burial will follow at Lawrence Cemetery, De Pere.
