Gerald “Jerry” J. Ravet, age 92, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Aurora Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Stephenson, MI, to Joseph and Viola (Hoaglund) Ravet. He graduated salutatorian of the class of 1949 at Powers-Spaulding High School, then later graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s and a master’s in accounting. He also served in the Marines as a Corporal during the Korean War from 1952-1954. When he came back from the service, he married the love of his life, Lois McCauley, on June 26, 1954, in Escanaba, MI sharing 69 years and 7 children.
Jerry was the Secretary Treasurer and Vice President for Green Bay Structural Steel Inc. from 1961 -2001 and taught at UW Green Bay for 16 years. He also served on the Finance Commission Board of Nativity Church, Salvation Army Board, a member of the American Legion Post #244 in Powers, MI, worked with S.C.O.R.E. for 5 years, member of the Tuesday Morning Men’s Club, member of the Elks Club #259 and member of the Moose Lodge #801.
Jerry’s favorite pastime was camping, loading up the kids to travel across the country to see the sites. He loved to travel, see new places and learn the history of the area. He didn’t like to pass up a museum. He and Lois went on several cruises and trips overseas with family and friends. He loved racket ball, swimming, and volleyball.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joyce (Jack), infant granddaughter (Kirsten), and infant great grandson (Josiah). Also, by his in-laws: Bennett, Yvonne, Flossie, Bill, Rita, Kayo, Mary, and Bud.
Survivors include: his wife, Lois; two sons, Michael (Diane), Green Bay, Scott, Escanaba; five daughters, Vicky, Green Bay, Lori (Michael), Green Bay, Teri (Dave), Denmark, Kelly (Brian), Oneida, and Connie (Bill), Green Bay; grandchildren (20): Shawn (Bri), Lisa (Mike), Brittney (Bobbie Jo), Mindy (Justin), Eila, Tyler (Melissa), Elizabeth, Ethan (Lauren), Jeremy (Sarah), Ben (Diana), Holly (John), Jeanne (Jericho), Nina (Chas), Ashley (Marshall), Brian (Cassie), Tamara (Joe), Alycia, Cherrelle, Brandon, Dakota: great grandchildren (30): Madyson, Brayden, Ava, Zachary, Brendon, Athena, Cain, Aden, Brooklynn, Madelynn, Emma, Ellianna, Alexander, Connor, Lainey, Jace (due Dec), Korbyn, Jaxtyn, Prestyn, Brooks, Georgia, Landen, Frankie, Ripp, Aaliyah, Emmett, Avianna, Elliott, Brody, Brayden. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Jerry’s favorite sayings… “Children are such a joy.” “Behind every successful man is a woman who made it necessary.” “Advice to the men… Just say “Yes dear!” “Whoop-a-de ding shoooo!” “It’s exciting to be Belgian!” “If I have to stop this car… (pass it on)”
We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday October 25, 2023, at 1:00pm at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S. Oneida St, Green Bay with Father Matt Simonar officiating. Visitation will occur from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.
