Geraldine Marie Lewnau Sherwood
August 11, 1936 to November 24, 2024
Geraldine Marie Lewnau Sherwood, age 88, passed away on November 24, 2024 in Portage, MI. Gerry is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Sandra, son Lance and six grandchildren, Alicia, Matthew, Nicole, Lauren, Daniel and Andrew.
Gerry was born on August 11, 1936, in Milwaukee, WI, to Ervin and Ruth Lewnau. She grew up in a loving home with her sister Janet Helen.
She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and met her late husband, Dr. Donald Leroy Sherwood.
Gerry and Don Sherwood were married on June 21, 1958, at Sherman Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.
After living in Portland, OR and Chicago, IL for Don’s internship and residency, Gerry gave birth to their first son, Eric, while Gerry and Don were stationed in Frankfurt, Germany at the 97th General Medical Army Hospital.
In 1962, Gerry, Don and Eric moved to Green Bay, WI.
Gerry gave birth to their second son, Lance, in Green Bay in 1966.
After raising the family, Gerry worked as an occupational therapist at the Brown County Mental Health Hospital in Green Bay.
All of her life Gerry had a love for her family, friends, and her faith.
Gerry enjoyed playing tennis, singing, music, art, architecture, calligraphy, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
While living in Green Bay, Gerry was active in the First United Methodist Church, Western Racquet Club, and the YMCA, among other local organizations.
Gerry and Don lived in Green Bay for 56 years before moving to Kalamazoo, MI in 2021 to initially reside at The Fountains at Bronson Place. Upon Don’s passing in March 2023, Gerry most recently resided at Bickford Place, in Portage, MI.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the Lyndahl Funeral Home 1350 Lombardi Avenue in Green Bay, WI on January 18th at 11:00am with a visitation starting at 10:00am.
