Grace "Grayce" English Obituary

Grace E. “Grayce” English, age 93, of Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at her residence.

Grace was born on February 9, 1932, in Merrill, daughter of the late Rev. Walter and Irma (Dassow) Piehler. She was a graduate of Merrill High School with the Class of 1950. On August 29, 1954, she married Richard English in Merrill, he preceded her in death on November 24, 2024.

Grace's long and well-lived life centered on her family and friends. She was a loving wife to Richard for 70 years (unheard of in this day and age), and cared for and advocated for him up until he passed away five months ago. Even when he could no longer communicate, she went to his room at least two times a day to just sit with him and comfort him. She loved him deeply and now is in heaven with him. They had a marriage that all aspire to.

Grace was also very involved with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, which almost always involved her cooking meals and special treats. She cooked Thanksgiving dinner every year until she moved from her house, and will be remembered for making "special potatoes", dumplings, and "monkey bread". Dale and Joel also remember her making home-made bread, home-made caramels and sweetened pie crust pieces. Grace was the best mother a child could ever want, and was the same as a grandmother and great-grandmother. All of us treasure the time we were able to spend with her.

Grace was a singer and entertainer. She spent decades with the Chantelles singing group, and their performances were eagerly awaited by family and friends. You could always count on Grace to be involved in at least two funny skits at each show. Her and Richard's love for music has been passed down to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Grace was an avid sports fan, and loved to watch the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers. Grace also loved to read and play bridge with her friends. She was an animal lover, which resulted in her becoming a Zoo Booster. She especially loved her dogs and the dogs of family members. Finally, Grace was very involved in her church, and was a "baby cuddler" at St. Vincent Hospital.

Grace would often tell the story about how she only weighed two pounds at birth and was not expected to survive. Her family and friends are so thankful to God that she did survive because she has been a blessing to all who have come in contact with her over the years. Thanks be to God for blessing us with Grace, and for taking her to heaven to be with Richard.

Survivors include her two sons: Dale (Julie) and Joel (Debbie); 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law: Kitty Piehler and Claudia Piehler. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a grandson: Andy English.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1731 St. Agnes Drive, Green Bay. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Scott Malme, with burial in Fort Howard Memorial Park, Green Bay.
