James C. “Jim” Engebretsen, age 89, of Green Bay passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at his residence with his family by his side.
Jim was born November 22, 1933, in Green Bay, son of the late James E. and Muriella (Clark) Engebretsen. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1953. Jim joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1954–1956, followed by six years in the Naval Reserves. He then took over the family business, Engebretson’s Auto Rebuilders, until he retired in 1995. On May 9, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Mavis Labocki. She preceded him in death on October 11, 1982. He then met Joan (Pamperin) Lannoye while line dancing with the YMCA, together, they joined the Honky-tonk Line Dancing Troop of Howard where they performed at many elderly residences and nursing homes. Joan and Jim shared 16 years together and were married on September 15, 2018.
Jim and Joan enjoyed traveling and RV camping, they also spent many years RV camping and pontooning at their site on Kelly Lake where they made many friends. Jim also enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, metal detecting, reading, line dancing, riding his tractor and making hay, and spending time with family and friends.
Jim was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Amvets, Navy Club, Elks, Moose Lodge, NRA, GPAA, the Forty Eighth Post Commanders Club and many other Veteran Associations.
Survivors include his wife: Joan Lannoye; his children: Lori (Mark) Fick; Vicki (Kevin) Linzmeier; Grandchildren: Christy Gadzinski; Michael (Crystal) Peterson; Heather (Gregg) Dettman; Rachel (Andrew) Helgerson; Karlee (Thomas) Fick; Brooke (Taylor) Linzmeier; Marisa Linzmeier; McKenzie Engebretsen; Hunter Engebretsen; Tiarra (Brandon) Nygaard; nine great-grandchildren; step children: Gary (Pam) Lannoye; Gene (Jean) Lannoye; Lori (Todd) Selissen; Lisa (Brad) Schumacher; step grandchildren: Jennifer (Ed Verboomen) Kobylarczyk; Stacy (Eli) Harris; Crystal (Darrel) Wagner; Cassandra (Clint) DeRuyter; Jackie (Eric) Unti; John (Erin) Lannoye; Joseph (Rachel) Lannoye; Janelle (Adam) Koss; Scott (Kelley) Selissen; Lindsey (Tyler) Trotter; Brittany (Tyler) Einberger; Brooke (Nick) Gilbertson; Trevor (Taylor) Schumacher; twenty four step great grandchildren; sister: Joan Smirnoff, Naples, FL; step in-laws: Donna Brunette; Keith (Judy) Pamperin; Janice (Ronald) Klein; Delores (Michael) Hitt; Leon (Jenine) Pamperin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: James and Muriella Engebretsen; 1st wife: Mavis; sons: Mark and Jamie Engebretsen; stepsister and brother in-law: Carol and Roger Bredael.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday December 18, 2022, at The Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave. with a prayer service being held at 7:00 pm, and again on Monday December 19, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Howard, from 1:30 pm until the time of mass at 3:00 pm. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Jim Lucas with burial to take place at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
