Jean Watson Obituary

Jean Margaret (Hansen) Watson, age 82, died on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, after her short battle with cancer. Jean was born in Clintonville, WI to Alma and LeRoy Hansen where she lived until graduating from high school in 1957. Jean graduated from UW Whitewater as an Elementary Education major and subsequently took graduate courses at UW Oshkosh. Jean started her professional career in West Allis, WI for 3 years and for the Prince Georges County School District for the following five years. After moving to Green Bay, she taught for 26 years in the Ashwaubenon School District at both Valley View and Pioneer elementary schools. She loved teaching and was passionate about helping all her students. Jean created a lasting impact on each student she taught!

Jean was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years as well as Incarnation Lutheran Church. She was a very active member in both congregations, from singing in the choir to teaching Sunday school as well as being part of many committees. She was thankful for the opportunities she had within her strong faith in God.

Jean is well known for putting others first and always helping anyone. She was very active in community organizations and enjoyed volunteering. She loved to read, be outside, write in her journal each day, and take several walks every day around Titletown. A life-long passion for her was her love for traveling. She was always up for an adventure and loved to explore new places. She spent countless hours in her car on road trips with her family, friends, and the “antique roadshow”. Jean’s friends were so important to her, and she loved getting together on her porch for luncheons and going on day trips! There was always a great bottle of white wine to be shared!

Jean took great pride and joy in her family and her eight grandchildren. She was known as “Grandma Jean” to everyone that knew her, her grandchildren’s teammates, and friends. It was very common for Jean to drive long distances to watch a single game as she would never turn down a fun weekend of sports with family and friends. You would always know when Grandma Jean was in attendance, and everyone was always excited to see her. She never forgot a birthday, wedding, or baptism anniversary. Grandma Jean was the most supportive, enthusiastic, and most importantly a loving Grandma.

It is evident that you could know Jean for one day or 82 years and she made an impression on your life! Her best advice was “think before you act” and her wish was that people would be “happy” at her funeral. Jean could light up any room and was always ready for fun. When there was music she was dancing for sure! She was a role model for others to live life to the fullest and always remain positive in all you do.

Jean is survived by her son Clifford and Helene Watson, daughter Pamela and Daniel West, grandchildren Cliff II and Elyse Watson, Cooper Watson (Anna), Natalie West (Austin), Carver Watson, Maggie West, Mitchell West (Lily), Caden Watson, and Samuel West along with her two brothers, Roger Hansen, and Lee and Connie Hansen, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will be at 3pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., with Rev. Steve Apfel officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the funeral home from 1pm until 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund for Jean are being established for Valley View Elementary School, Fallen Timbers Environmental Center, or to the donor’s choice.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
