Johanna Forrest

 Johanna Haag Forrest, age 96, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Hobart, on November 18, 2021, following a brief illness.

Jo was born in Grab, Germany, on February 3, 1925, to Henry and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Haag. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1926 when she was almost two years old.  They passed through Ellis Island on the way to Huron, South Dakota, where her father worked as a Blacksmith. A few years later the family moved to Wisconsin. They lived in several communities before finally settling on a farm near Lena.

On July 28, 1945, she married Albert C. Forrest at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Green Bay. Jo was an active member of her church for 75 years as a member of Ladies Aid and The Mission League. Jo had various jobs during her lifetime, but her favorite occupation was as a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and she loved to knit, crochet and work on crafts. In her later years, when she had more time, she became an avid reader. Most of all, Jo loved spending time with family and friends.

Jo is survived by two sons, John (Martha), Plymouth, MA, and Jim, Madison, WI.; younger brother, John; three sisters-in-law, Linda, Alice, and Myrtle; along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Elsie Getman, Hildegaard Brutlag, Helen McKamey, and Charlotte Ellman and four brothers: Erwin, Ernest, Herman, and Robert.

Jo will be greatly missed and long remembered with deep fondness.

Per Jo’s wishes, no services will be held. Burial will take place at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
