John Monfort Obituary

John J. Monfort, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home Sunday, March 18, 2018.  He was born in Green Bay, on November 12, 1927, to the late John and Anna (Hucek) Monfort.  He joined the Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent in 1948.  On October 30, 1948, he married Dolores J. Cormier.  He worked as a body repair man for 18 years.  In his spare time, John and Dolores built homes.  He owned Monfort Auto Body Shop and had the Renault Car Dealership.

John was a volunteer Ashwaubenon Fireman for 18 years.  He became an Ashwaubenon Town Supervisor in 1966.  From 1971 until 1977, he was voted in as the Ashwaubenon Town Chairman.  In 1977, he became the first Village of Ashwaubenon President until 1981.  He had been on the Town Planning Commission for 12 years. He was also a Brown County Supervisor and served on the Brown County Planning Commission, Chairman of Brown County Highway Commission, Vice Chairman of the Fox Valley Water Quality Planning Agency.  During his tenure as Town Chairman in 1975, the Allouez-Ashwaubenon Bridge was dedicated. He was extremely proud of the Ashwaubomay Park which was dedicated in 1978.  He had hunted and walked on the land and knew that someday it should be a park.  Most notably, in September of 1977, the Town of Ashwaubenon incorporated and became a Village.  In 1979, the approval was given to build Bay Park Square.  He enjoyed his many years in politics.

In 1987, John and Dolores opened their business: Fairfield Elder Homes, a residential care facility for the aged.  They sold the business to their son Randy and then built and operated Wyndemere Estate, a long term care facility for people who suffered with Alzheimer’s. They continued until they retired.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dolores; his parents, John and Anna Monfort; sister, Joyce Vonckx; brother, Hilary Monfort; brothers-in-law, Donald Vonckx and Donald Koeppen; and sister-in-law, Dot Monfort.

John is survived by his sons, Kerry Monfort and Randy (Marla) Monfort; daughters, Julie (Mark) Wyckoff-Monfort and Wendy Monfort; grandchildren Jason (Terry) Monfort, Nathan (Allie) Monfort, Molly Monfort, Sarah (Allen) Kopatz, Shane (Rachel) Raymaker, and Ashley Bryson; step-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Geyer and Shannon (Alan) Cohen; great-grandchildren, Garret and Lydia Kopatz, Sophie and Britton Raymaker, Hadley and Will Monfort, and Aria Monfort; step great-grandchildren, Taylor Geyer, Ari and Brielle Geyer, Lilleigh and Nash Cohen; sister, Donna Koeppen; brother, Mark Monfort; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
