Josephine Bantamoi, age 81, of Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. She was born in Sierra Leone on July 2, 1942 to Abdulai and Jeneba Koroma. Josephine married Martin Batamoi; he preceded her in death on July 15, 2020.
Josephine’s family very important to her, she cared for her seven children, adopted children and she was a foster parent to many children. Josephine worked as an elementary school teacher and dedicated her life to teaching. She took great pride in teaching underprivileged children vocational skills after school. Josephine was passionate about watching tennis, especially when Serena Williams was playing, she also enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Josephine was a former member of Annunciation Parish, and later became a parishioner of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church.
Josephine is survived by her nine children: Margeret (Julius) Bantamoi-Songu, Martin Bantamoi, Elizabeth Gamanga, Ann Marie Bantamoi, Edward (Jeanette) Bantamoi, Aloysius (Abibatu) Bantamoi, Anthony Bantamoi, Patrick Bantamoi, and Veronica Bantamoi; grandchildren: Martin, Alie, Emanuel, Carolina, Lucy, Josephine, Luke, Antoniette, Roman, Benjamin, Alicia, Joel, and Melody; three great-grandchildren: Hailey, Charlotte, and Charlie; and her three sisters: Catherine Bio, Cecilia Koroma, and Agnes (Simeon) Zumenu; Her niece Patricia Bantamoi, and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Josephine at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1st, 2023, at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St., with Father Juan officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:00 a.m. Per the family’s request, please wear either black, gray or white in memory of Josephine. Josephine will be laid to rest at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
