Karen J. Verdegan, age 83, lifelong resident of Ashwaubenon, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, peacefully in her sleep.
Karen was born September 26, 1938, in Green Bay, daughter of the late Romuald and Jeane (Hogeboom) Heitzkey and graduated from Green Bay West High School with the class of 1956. On May 31, 1958, she married James N. Verdegan in Green Bay.
Karen worked many years as a hostess at local fine dining area venues where she met a lot of wonderful people. She loved crosswords, reading, and her many book clubs. She was an avid gardener and real proud of her flower gardens. In her younger days she loved to bowl and golf with her mother Jeane. Most importantly, her family was everything. A beautiful woman, the best mom, loving wife and sister, a fun Aunt, and will forever be remembered by her great grandchildren as “GG”.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years. James: her children and their spouses, Becky (Steve) Van Straten, Suamico: Mari Jo (Timothy) Gulbrand, Howard. Her sister Susan DeNamur, Nashville, TN. Her brothers Bruce (Rosemary) Heitzkey, Green Bay: Victor (Sandy) Heitzkey, Suamico: Greg (Jan) Heitzkey, Green Bay. Her brother-in-law Ron (Rose) Verdegan, Altoona. Her grandchildren, Amy (Andy) Cote, Bryton (Angie) Gulbrand, all of Suamico. Her great-grandchildren Ally, Cash, and Zoey Cote. Many wonderful Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin J. Verdegan: Her parents Romuald and Jeane Heitzkey: Her sister Judith Finnell: Two brother-in-law’s William Finnell and Lawrence DeNamur and nephew Robert DeNamur.
A small gathering of family will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St, Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM with prayer service at 12:00 PM in the Chapel. Entombment will be in the Allouez Catholic Chapel Mausoleum at a later date.
