LaVern Burt Obituary

LaVern E. Burt, 93, died Thursday, December 24, 2020 at St. Mary Hospital, Green Bay. LaVern was born on December 24, 1927, daughter of the late Walter and Martha (Rosenbaum) Sonnabend. She married Leslie Burt and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1994. LaVern was employed as the Head Secretary of Frozen Foods for Larsen Canning retiring after 25 years. She loved watching the Brewers and even kept her own scorebook. LaVern was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in many respects. She was a member LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), Handbell Choir, and volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Store. Following her retirement, LaVern enjoyed cleaning at Lambeau Field following Packer games.

Survivors include her three children, Bruce (Janice) Burt, Kaukauna, Mark (Brenda) Burt, Appleton, Doreen Peterson, Green Bay; six grandchildren, Eric (Monica) Burt, Appleton, Craig (Sarah) Burt, Neenah, Scott (Alisia) Burt, Appleton, Ashley (John) Vande Burght, Cottage Grove, April (Brian) Fortune, Appleton, Benjamin Gerhartz, Illinois; nine great-grandchildren, Alana, Kaitlyn, Madeline, Elna, Hailey, Weston, Alex, Rowen, Oscar; two sisters-in-law, Faith Sonnabend, Dolores Burt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie Burt; two children, Linda Burt and Barry Burt; two brothers, Elton (June) Sonnabend, Wally Sonnabend; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Linden Burt, John and Dorothy Davis.

Due to concerns of COVID, private family services will be held and LaVern will be laid to rest at Nicolet Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church at a later date when it is safer to gather in public.
