Lois D. Tollefson, age 96, Passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at Woodside Manor, Ashwaubenon. She was born to the late Henry and Lydia (Stroetz) Dethloff on July 22, 1926, in Winchester, WI.
“And so her soul which yearned for eternal rest… returned to the Father she loved the best.” These were the closing words of a poem Lois wrote when her grandmother died. Lois was the second of three daughters born to Lydia and Henry Dethloff. The family lived in Green Bay and later moved to Marshfield. Lois graduated from Marshfield High School. She married Warren “Tolly” Tollefson in 1947 and the couple lived in Stevens Point where he returned to college. Lois was a receptionist and tour guide for Hardware Mutual. It was an ideal job since she enjoyed meeting people. After Tolly was transferred to Green Bay, Lois attended the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay. Following his death, she continued her studies by attending “Learning in Retirement.” She was an ardent reader and a creative writer. She and Tolly took many trips to Europe and friends they met there came to visit them. They loved plays, concerts, Bridge, and outings in Door County with family and friends. She loved shopping for books, antiques, and shoes. She worked on the civic music drive and made tapes for the visually impaired. For many years, she was a member of the Cady Woodruff art study group. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. Like Martin Luther, she believed we should pray, praise, and give thanks to God every day. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and belonged to several Bible study groups. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a loyal, honest, trusting friend and cherished her long-time friendships. She will be dearly missed.
Lois is survived by her sister Carol Walther, Stevens Point; her nephews: Hans (Suzanne) Walther, Austin, and Evan (Amy) Walther, Stevens Point, Marc (Marissa) Burkhart, Illinois, Mike (Mary) Tollefson, Marshfield; her nieces: Deb (Dave) Larson, Arizona, Sue (Fred) Trudeau, Marshfield, and Lisa (Pat) Connaughty, Wisconsin.
