MGYSGT Gerald "Jerry" Lewis USMC (RET) Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Lewis, 80, of Green Bay passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at his residence.

Jerry was born on July 31, 1942 in Green Bay to Gilbert “Babe” and Gertrude (Otto) Lewis. He was a 1960 graduate of Green Bay West High School, he then attended the old UWGB extension center for two years. Jerry married the former Ruth Pape, she preceded him in death in 2008. He then married Kay Marie Gruett, she also preceded him in death. Jerry served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1965 in the Marine Reserve Unit in Green Bay serving for just over 27 years, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sgt.  Each year, Jerry looked forward to attending the Marine Corps Ball and always made it a priority to attend.  Jerry worked for Procter and Gamble, retiring after 34 years.

Jerry enjoyed bowling in weekly leagues as well as in the national bowling tournament for over 30 years, and was inducted into the Green Bay Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1988. Jerry played Little League baseball for three years, beginning the first year it was organized in Green Bay, he then played in the Babe Ruth League for three additional years beginning within the first years it was organized. He continued playing ball into his adulthood and ended up umpiring. Over the years, Jerry enjoyed spending time volunteering with various tasks at Heritage Hill State Park.

Jerry is survived by his grandchildren: Vanessa and Jack Lassiter; sister: Carolyn (Ron) Kading; nieces and nephews: Michael (Melanie) Kading, Suzanne (Mike) Walter, and Tim (Amie) Kading; great nieces and nephew: Michayla, Mackenzie, Mackenna, Abby and Jenna; and daughter-in-law: Heidi Lewis. He is further survived by cousins, other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his son: Eric Lewis; parents: Gilbert and Gertrude Lewis; two wives: Ruth Lewis and Kay Marie Lewis; and niece: Becky Kading.  

A funeral service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2160 Packerland Drive, with Rev. Leon Ehlert officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Jerry will be laid to rest at Fort Howard Cemetery in Green Bay.
