Margery Goethe Obituary

Margery  Goethe, 97, of Green Bay passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Woodside Senior Community.

June, (she never cared for the name Margery) was born on June 23, 1926 in Muscatine, IA to the late Arthur and Bernice (Vernon) Young.  After high school she left the family farm and moved to San Francisco, CA where she worked as an elevator operator at the Mark Hopkins Hotel. She then moved to St. Louis MO where she met her future husband Eben Goethe. They were married on February 6, 1947. They moved to Green Bay WI   shortly thereafter. For a time, June was an accountant for Prange’s department store. After the births of her sons she was a full time homemaker. As her sons got older she volunteered in the community for the Civic Symphony of Green Bay and Aspiro. June was also a crafter; doing cross stitch and embroidery and even quilting when she was young. June and Eben loved to travel. They went as far as Australia, Fiji, Morocco, and all over Europe. But trips up north or to Door County, where she always bought a cherry pie, were much appreciated too. June was a witty woman who had a way with words. She loved to read and liked to do the crossword and other puzzles in the daily newspaper.

June is survived by her sons: Chris (Teresa) Goethe and Terry (Claudia) Goethe; grandchildren: Anna Rae Goethe and Heather Grzelka; and sister: Lois Butler. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. June was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur and Bernice Young; her husband: Eben Goethe; brothers: Richard Young, Charles Young, Wayne (Mary) Young, James (Dolores) Young, and William Young; and sisters: Esther Edison, and Delores Hartung.

A family memorial service will be held at the end of summer in Virginia to celebrate June’s life.

The family requests that any donations be made to Unity Hospice of Green Bay in June’s name.
