On Saturday evening, August 10, 2024, Marilyn Reynard passed peacefully into the eternal arms of Our Loving Savior at the age of 89.
Marilyn, daughter of the late Clifford (Ole) and Doris Schafer, was born in Green Bay on Nov. 11, 1934. She attended Green Bay West High School where she played clarinet in the band and graduated with the class of 1953. She was still active with her female classmates in The Class of 1953 Lunch Bunch.
After high school, Marilyn was a bookkeeper at a local insurance company. She married Jim Reynard on June 30, 1956 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church. They celebrated 65 wedding anniversaries together before Jim passed away on May 30, 2022.
Marilyn worked at Swanstrom’s Gift Store on Adams Street after they were married while Jim was in the Army. After his service, they moved to Columbus, Ohio until they returned to Green Bay where he finished his 35 year career at Wisconsin Public Service.
Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom for her two children until they were in junior high and high school. Then she worked in the library at Lombardi Junior High and later as a teller at United Bank for six years. She also did bookkeeping for another six years at St. Paul’s United Methodist church and taught the arthritis water class at the YMCA for 20 years. Volunteering was important to both Marilyn and Jim. She spent time answering the phone at The Red Cross and helping in the gift shop at Bellin Hospital.
Marilyn was very athletic and would have loved to be a phy ed teacher but didn’t have the opportunity to go to college. She loved to ice race on her figure skates when she was in school and she played baseball with the boys in the field next to her house. As an adult, she was active in a couples bowling league and a ladies golf league. She still loved watching the Brewers, Bucks, Packers and Badgers on TV.
Marilyn is survived by her two children, Deb (Tom) Bruns from Port Washington, WI, and Russ (Barb) Reynard from New London, WI. Five grandchildren: Kathleen (William) Duppler, Zach (Jess) Bruns, Nicole (Ryan) Wockenfus, Jimmy (Shayna) Reynard, and Rachel (Kyle) Petit. She is further survived by ten great grandchildren:
Elizabeth, Rebecca, Darius, Hugh, Remy, Eloise, Barrett, Stanley, Archie, and Evelyn, and one on the way. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her sister and brother-in-law: Laura and Harry Cannon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookview Meadows, where Marilyn has lived for the past two + years, for their loving care of her. They would also like to thank Unity Hospice for their tireless efforts to keep her comfortable during her final month of her life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 9:30 am at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave. Green Bay, WI followed by a service at 11:00 am. The family would like to invite guests to 1951 (Rock Garden) for lunch following the service. Interment will be at Nicolet Memorial Park.
