Marlene Rae (Gehler) England, 90, formerly of Marinette, WI, passed away peacefully in her sleep during a short hospitalization for an illness on Monday, April 20, 2026 at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay, WI.
Marlene was born October 5, 1935 in Marinette, daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Jackson) Gehler. She was a graduate of Peshtigo High School. Marlene was united in marriage to James H. England on October 30, 1954. They shared more than 65 years of marriage together.
Marlene found her greatest joy in spending time with the people she loved most: her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished her many years as a preschool teacher at Peace Preschool. She enjoyed singing, reading, knitting, and trivia. At Brookview Meadows, she treasured the camaraderie she shared with her special friends and fellow residents, especially during lunchtime gatherings and Happy Hour. Marlene also had many friends she enjoyed spending time with and frequently catching up with by phone. Known for her wonderful sense of humor, Marlene absolutely loved to laugh!
Survivors include her children: Jill (David) Fritz of Green Bay, Jeff (Lorri Kieff) England of Sturgeon Bay, and John (Kellie) England of Peshtigo, sister: Tari (Pat) Menard of Marinette, grandchildren: Andrew Fritz, Ryan (Sara) Fritz, Marie (Nick) Ott, Adam England, and Olivia England, great-grandchildren: Lexi, Lukas, Emilee, Ava, and Logan.
Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband James, parents Richard and Margaret, her brother, Robert Gehler, her sister, Nancy McDonald, and her brothers-in-law, Richard (Dale) McDonald and William England.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate staff and residents of Brookview Meadows in Howard, as well as to the dedicated medical team at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital for their care and support during her stay.
Marlene’s family will receive visitors on Monday, April 27, from 10:30am to 12:00pm at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., Green Bay. A prayer service will begin at 12:00 pm.
