Martha J. Whitlock, age 81, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence with her family by her side.
Martha was born September 6, 1941 to the late C.H. “Herb” and Anna (Mountjoy) Simpson in Kingston, PA. She graduated from Kingston High School with the class of 1959. She married Edward Whitlock on her birthday, September 6, 1961, they shared 59 loving years together prior to Edward’s passing in 2021. Martha was a dedicated wife and mother, when she returned to the workforce, she spent several years at Shopko and then took an administrative role with Paper Converting and remained there until her retirement.
Martha enjoyed sewing, embroidery, bowling, daily talks with her friend Joy, meeting friends for lunch, going to exercise classes at the YWCA, traveling to London, Paris, Hawaii, Alaska, and many bus trips with friends from J & J travelers, and was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as usher and took great pride in straightening up the sanctuary. Martha was an avid shopper and loved to cook. Her family always looked forward to her big holiday meals, Christmas being Martha’s favorite. She would go above and beyond, ensuring that it was special and magical for her family. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family, especially attending her great grandson’s activities. She will be greatly missed by her two daughters and their families.
Survivors include two daughters: Jean Whitlock, and Lisa (Dave) Malmberg; grandchildren: Kasey Malmberg (fiancé Matthew Deneys), and Hannah Malmberg; one great-grandson: Mason Deneys; nieces, nephews; dear friend of 62 years: Joy Christensen; and other relatives and friends survive.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Edward Whitlock; one granddaughter: Erin Malmberg; two brothers: William Simpson, Herbert Simpson; and two sisters-in-law: Joyce Simpson-Fawcett and Joyce (Woelfel) Ostrand.
A funeral service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe Street. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm and again on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the CHURCH from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
