Mary Zirbel Obituary

Mary K. Zirbel, age 84, of Green Bay passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026 in De Pere.

Mary was born October 4, 1941 in Appleton, daughter of the late Herbert and Kathryn (Mortimer) Vogel.  She was a graduate of Chilton High School with the Class of 1959.

Mary worked as a License Practical Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital for 35+ years. She also worked at the Blood Bank, Pacemaker Clinic and a few nursing homes over the years. She also cared for family members and neighbors when needed, even during Covid.

Mary enjoyed many hobbies over the years. She was a Scout leader, hockey mom, jewelry seller, sewer of quilts, downhill skier, golfer, party host, cheerleader mom, and in her retirement she started tap dancing and twirling her baton with the Sun City Poms.  She marched in several parades including the Fiesta Bowl Parade over her 25 years with them. She also joined the Golden Grannies dance group for the Phoenix Suns NBA team.  She loved going out on the floor during timeouts and hearing the roar of the crowd.  She made the team for 13 years in a row! For the last 20+ years, Mary tended Susan’s gardens out on the bay. It was a job she loved and did not want to give up. Mary had several long time friendships with neighbors, high school classmates and people she met along the way. We will miss her high energy and spirit she had whether hosting Easter brunch for the neighborhood or dancing at the Sun Bowl in Sun City.  She was a wonderful mother, Gam Gam, Gma, grandma and friend. She was one of a kind and lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Tammie & Keith Zelhofer, her sister Lynn Rollmann and her brother and sister-in-law, James and Marla Vogel.  She is survived by her grandchildren Erin (Josh) and Ryan Zelhofer and Josh Zirbel and his wife, Jody.  Her great grandchildren are Noah and Micah Zirbel. Surviving also is her nephew/Godson Nick Vogel, niece Meredith Bartos and husband Mike and children Devin and Marissa, niece Michelle Tesch and husband Larry, nephew Mike Rollmann and wife Liz and their children Matthew and Peter.  She is also survived by members of the Wingert family. They include Mike and Julie, Steve and Monique and their daughters Alexis and Lauren and her husband Jon and son Jax, Scott and his partner Martin, David and his wife Kate and their children Bridget, Charlie and Sara. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Herbert & Kathryn Vogel, her son Timothy, her brother Kenneth Vogel, brother-in-law Jerry Rollmann and her long time love, Dave Wingert who she shared many adventures with and spent several years wintering in Arizona.  Oh, can’t forget the shopping they enjoyed together either.
