Mary Lou Nelson, age 93, of Green Bay passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Tender Hearts Assisted Living in Green Bay.
Mary Lou was born June 11, 1929 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Russell and Elnora (Krueger) Bishop. She was a graduate of West High School. On August 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Richard Nelson at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Green Bay. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2011.
Mary Lou worked at Stone Motors after graduating high school. When her children were older, she managed Modern Maternity in downtown Green Bay for a number of years. What brought her the most joy was raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary Lou was a devout Christian and shared her beliefs with many over the years. She served on many church committees and was involved in multiple church events over the years. She was very active in her daughter’s school activities, which included Girl Scouts and the PTA. Mary Lou enjoyed sewing, crafts, and spending time in Northern Wisconsin. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.
Mary Lou is survived by her five daughters: Julie (Eugene) Schneider, Sherrie Bekyir, Lori (Richard) Berndsen, Beth (John) Kaufman, Amy (Donald) Baranczyk; her grandchildren: Cynthia (Daniel) Abel, Curtis Schneider, Nichole Bekyir (James), Christine Bekyir (Steve), Jacob Kaufman (Abigail Boeck), Joshua Kaufman (Jenna Broege), Jordan Kaufman (Brooklinn Sayre), Elizabeth Baranczyk (Adrian Allen), Ashley Baranczyk, her great grandchildren: Miles Abel, Liam Abel, Teshonne Bekyir, Isaiah Bekyir, Marcus Bekyir Romans, Tre Bekyir-Peters, Safyia Stevens, Quadir Stevens, Aminah Stevens, her brother: James (Sandra) Bishop, many nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents Russell & Elnora Bishop, her husband Richard Nelson, her sisters Carol Bishop and Lea Ann McCartney.
The family would like to recognize Mary Lou’s neighbors, Patti and John Fonferek who were devoted and dear friends to Mary Lou. Special thanks to the entire staff at Tender Hearts Assisted Living and to everyone at Unity Hospice for the loving care Mary Lou received.
Friends and relatives may call Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at St Paul’s United Methodist Church, 341 Wilson Avenue from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am with the Rev. Diane Rew officiating. Entombment will take place at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at a later time. A memorial fund has been established in Mary Lou’s name.
