Mona “Sue” Steward, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at the age of 87 of multiple myeloma. Born in Melbourne, FL to the late Verner and Dora (Smith) Fritsch on July 22, 1937, Sue lived a life full of love, compassion, and creativity. Her family moved to Clintonville, WI, where she was raised and attended school. She married her high school sweetheart, the late James “Jim” Steward, in 1956. Sue and Jim lived in various cities throughout the U.S. before settling in Green Bay in 1961.
Sue was a nurturing soul who fostered 117 babies, providing them with a loving home and a strong start in life. She co-owned a craft business with Lynn, her best friend and neighbor of 59 years. She was a great listener and accepted everyone for who they were. Sue’s personality shone through in her love for the color orange, often seen wearing orange clothes, shoes, nail polish, and lipstick.
A dedicated journal keeper, Sue documented her daily life’s journey with care and reflection. She cherished her weekly thrifting and grocery outings with her daughter, playing Yahtzee with friends, and going to lunch with her craft club. Sue also had a deep love for cats, especially her beloved cat, Sophie, who was her constant companion.
Sue is survived by her brother William Fritsch; three children, Mark, Todd, and Linda (Brett) Buratti; grandchildren, Lindsay, Michael, Alex, Natalie and Dominick (Emma); and great-grandchildren, Gavin and Agatha, who brought her so much happiness.
Sue’s legacy of love and gentle kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., Green Bay, on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 3 pm until 6 pm, with a memorial service at 5:30 pm.
The family encourages those who attend to wear something orange, to celebrate the color and happiness that Sue brought to those she loved.
