Myrl Child Obituary

Myrl Lamonte Child

August 9, 1934 – April 29, 2026

A life well lived. A life built on generosity, patience and kindness. A life rich in family and friends, a life built on a foundation of respect and service. A life that extended beyond the reach of his own hands was the life of Myrl L Child, who passed peacefully from this world on April 29, 2026.

Born to John and Miranda Child in Payette, Idaho on August 9, 1934, Myrl lived 91 years. He shared 61 years of marriage with Sandra K. Child (Deiters) until her passing in 2024. Together they served their country, owned a business, raised a family, traveled and genuinely enjoyed their life, their friends and their family. A visit to their home was greeted with a warm hug, a cold drink and many stories. And Myrl’s quick wit to punctuate the visit.

Myrl served a total of 30 years of active and inactive duty with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Seabees and he served 11 years overseas in Japan, Okinawa, the Philippines and Vietnam. He and his family were also stationed on Midway Island and Rhode Island. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer.

He met Sandy on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay and they were married on September 15,1962. They welcomed their son, Jeffrey on November 16, 1963 and daughter, Laura on March 17, 1965.

Following his Navy retirement in 1971, the family moved to Wisconsin where he was employed by Schoolway Transportation before fulfilling his dream of owning a service and gas station in Waterford. In 1980 they moved to Green Bay where he worked with Wisconsin Public Service. He retired from there in 1994.

In retirement, he and Sandy enjoyed traveling in their motor home, vacationing with family and they especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren.

Myrl is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Wendy Child; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Tom Hensley and grandchildren: Nicole Halverson, Kendall (David) Taylor, Lucas, Eric and Anna Moser and two great grandchildren Caleb and Cass. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Myrl was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; parents, brothers and sisters-in-law Virgil, Noel

(Lorraine), Harold (Ruth), Jack (Lola) and Vernal (Lou); his sisters and brothers-in-law Elma (Art) Wilkinson, Marge (Joe) Bernard, Iris (Floyd) Anderson and Verda (Daryl) McClanahan. He was also preceded in death by his In-laws Laura and Robert Huffman; Constance and Richard Armbrust and Mike Deiters.

Myrl will be shown at Lyndahl Funeral Home in Green Bay on May 8 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00. He will be interred at Fort Howard Cemetery following the service.
