Norbert Gross Obituary

Norbert Eugene Gross, 89, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Bellin Hospital.

Norbert Eugene (Norb) Gross was born in Milwaukee on October 4, 1931 to William and Noraine (Biebel) Gross. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to De Pere where Norb attended St. Mary Grade School and De Pere High School, graduating in 1949.

After graduation, Norb played as a starting linebacker for the Little Chute Flying Dutchman. He then attended Marquette, graduating with a degree in business in 1955. He worked for his father as a salesman at the Ford dealership, then at Green Bay Packaging for 33 years until his retirement in 1993.

In 1977 Norb married Clare Maslanka. Together they enjoyed traveling to Europe on 5 different occasions and to Hawaii. They enjoyed Octoberfest. When Clare became ill, Norb lovingly cared for her at home for 5 ½ years. She preceded him in death in 2016.

Norb was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and a talented athlete. He was proud of the fact that for 43 years he never missed a Packer home game. He was an outstanding bowler and placed 2nd out of 5,000 bowlers in the Press Gazette Tournament. Norb also had a hole in one at Wander Springs.

In Boy Scouts, Norb was elected into the Order of Arrow, and in Bridge, achieved the Bronze Life Master. He was a whiz at investing and trading in the stock market. Norb enjoyed adding beauty to his home through decorating and growing flowers. Fall was Norb’s favorite season. He also enjoyed drives to take in the beauty of nature and the turning of the leaves and sitting in his man cave, enjoying a Manhattan while listening to classical music.

Norb’s faith was the foundation for his life. He was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, and of the Knights of Columbus Vincent T. Lombardi Council #11834. He also ministered as an usher for 25 years.

Surviving Norb are his children Jennifer Gross and Jeffrey (Tina) Gross; grandchildren Faith, Michael and Matthew; a brother Clifford and sister Marilyn Nelsen. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Stephen; brothers Jerry, Jimmy and Billy; sisters Lois Fulwier and Rosemary Safdi.

The Mass of Christian burial for Norb will be held at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Green Bay, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Entombment will follow at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 10 AM until the time of mass at 11 AM.
