Patricia Westlund Obituary

Patricia A. Westlund, age 90, Green Bay, passed away January 4, 2022. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 11, 1931, to the late Walter and Hattie (Thiel) Gruett. She was a graduate of Shorewood High School. Patricia’s first husband Norman Schmidt preceded her in death in 1971. On January 11, 1974, she married Gerald Westlund in De Pere.

Patricia owned and operated Schmidt’s Garden Center in De Pere, WI with her first husband and continued to run the business successfully after his passing. She was a devoted mother and wife who gave so much over her 90 years to impact all of her family’s lives helping to mold them to who they are today, yet in turn asked for so very little for herself. She had a wide range of interests that included gardening, playing bridge and other games, reading and crafts. She had a strong faith in God and was an active member of the Highland Crest Baptist Church as well as their church in Florida, Open Door Baptist Church.

Patricia is survived by her husband: Gerald Westlund; daughter: Peggy (Mark) Tomasek; Sons: Steve (Donna) Schmidt, Paul (Cindy) Schmidt, Karl (Karen) Schmidt; Sister: Barbara (William) Gooch; Grandchildren: Karen (Tripp) Dolman, Michael Schmidt, Laura (Josh) Hoekstra, Sarah Schmidt, Andrew Schmidt, Nicole (Jason) Pool, Kelly (Brian) Peterson, Lee (Andrea) Tomasek and Ben (Mary) Tomasek; along with 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Norman Schmidt; her parents; sister: Janet (Clyde “Bud”) Beverung; brother: Frank (Elaine) Gruett; and grandson Matthew Schmidt.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Woodside Nursing Home for their passionate care for our mother during her time there.

Due to Covid-19 and keeping everyone safe, a private family service will be held on January 11, 2022, at 10:30 am.
