Patrick T. O'Brien

Patrick T. O’Brien, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. Born on Valentine’s Day in 1942 to John and Gertrude O’Brien in Superior, Wisconsin, Patrick lived a life full of creativity, dedication, and generosity.

A graduate of Cathedral High School (Class of 1960), Patrick pursued his passion for art at the University of Wisconsin–Superior, earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Art. He began his teaching career in Denmark, Wisconsin, before spending over 30 years inspiring students as an art teacher at Green Bay Southwest High School. His legacy as an educator lives on in the countless students he mentored and encouraged.

Beyond the classroom, Patrick was a gifted artist. His work often celebrated athletes, including beloved Green Bay Packer players. One of his most cherished contributions was a portrait of Vince Lombardi, which he dedicated to Mrs. Lombardi during the opening of Lombardi Middle School in the 1970s. In recognition of his lifelong commitment to the arts, the Patrick O’Brien Gallery was established at Green Bay Southwest High School in May 2025.

Patrick was also an avid golfer, achieving four hole-in-ones and enjoying many rounds with friends at the Brown County Golf Club and on a memorable trip to Ireland. He was a proud member of the Green Bay Curling Club, competing in bonspiels across Wisconsin.

In 1965, Patrick married his college sweetheart, Kathy O’Brien. He is survived by a daughter, Shannon O’Brien (Matt Graham) and two grandsons, Connor O’Brien Renz (26) and Duncan O’Brien Renz (22), who brought him immense pride and joy.

Patrick is also survived by his brothers Tom O’Brien (Marcia) and Michael O’Brien, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother John O’Brien (Jane).

Patrick’s warmth, humor, and generosity touched the lives of many. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, December 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
