Paul Cedergren Obituary

Paul T. Cedergren, 93, Green Bay passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Angels Touch Assisted Living in De Pere, WI.  Paul was born February 7, 1927 in Chicago, IL to the late Anders Olof Cedergren and Florence Elizabeth (Hansen).  On November 10, 1951, Paul married Ione Thelma Magnuson in Marinette, WI.  She preceded him in death in June of 2019.  Paul is survived by his four sons, Charles (Ann) of Madison, WI, David (Carrie) of Madison, WI, Thomas of Appleton, WI and Peter (Barbara) of Green Bay; his grandchildren, Matthew (Linlin), Tyler, Preston, Julia, Charles, Edward and Henry; and many other extended family members.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ione and two brothers, Eric (Helen) Cedergren and Robert Cedergren.

Paul spent most of his youth and was raised in Chicago.  He moved with his family at the age of 15 to Marinette, WI.  Paul served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in early 1945 and served as a gunner’s mate 1st class on the USS Chestnut in the Pacific theater until the end of WWII.  He then attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and later, the UW-Extension in Marinette.  It is back in Marinette where Paul began dating Ione.  They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Marinette.

Paul was employed by the Standard Oil Company for many years and he and his young family moved to several different cities in Wisconsin.  After becoming employed by the State of Wisconsin as a petroleum inspector, they located to Ashwaubenon in 1963 where they would spend the rest of their lives.  Paul retired from the state in 1992.

Paul and Ione were longtime members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay.  He was active in the church’s youth education and was a member of the church council.  Paul has been honored by the American Red Cross for his many years of donating blood.  He was a longtime voting day/poll worker volunteer in Ashwaubenon.  Paul enjoyed playing dartball through church.  He was also a regular at the Green Bay Area Retired Men’s Club for many years.  Paul had a passion for downhill skiing during the winter and he loved golfing with Ione and his family whenever possible.  He truly enjoyed introducing his grandchildren to the game of golf.  Paul and Ione loved traveling during their retirement years.  Paul’s most memorable journeys were visiting the Hawaiian Islands and traveling to Sweden.
