Raymond Gegare Obituary

Raymond H. Gegare Jr., age 78, Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 28,2021. He was born August 1, 1942, to the late Ray Sr. and Catherine “Kitty” (Desotelle) Gegare in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Raymond was a U.S. Army veteran who faithfully served our country from February 1964 to April 1966 when he was honorably discharged after his tour of duty in Vietnam.  On most days you could find Ray proudly wearing his Vietnam Vet hat and he always got a kick out of total strangers thanking him for his service.  Ray was a car enthusiast who loved to restore old cars and enjoyed doing body work to return them to their formal glory, including his 1955 Ford Ole’ Sweet Pea.  Ray’s other favorite place on earth was his little cottage in Lakewood, WI, and he enjoyed many weekends and loved hosting deer camp.  One of Ray’s other favorite hangouts was Cropsey’s on State, which he frequented regularly after work, during the 37 years he was employed by Tape, Inc.  Even after retirement, trips to Cropsey’s to get his Packer or Brewer numbers were a must.

On June 4th, 1966, Ray married Elizabeth “Betty” Weinreis at St. Mary’s Church in Brillion, Wisconsin. Ray and Betty were blessed with two children, Brenda and Brad. Ray always found room in his home for family pets, which he cherished, including Patches, Boomer, Blackie, and Chance.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Brenda and son-in-law D.J. and their children, Jordan (fiancé Noah Ripley) and Bryce Schneider. Ray is also survived by Brad’s children, Conner and Kiley Gegare and daughter-in-law, Erin Culligan. Ray is survived by his brother, Rich (Kathy) Gegare of Lakewood and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Ray was proceeded in death by his parents Ray Sr. and Catherine, Ray’s wife Betty, who passed in January 2019, and son Brad, who passed in January 2020.  Ray also was proceeded in death by his sister Shirley Wauters and Shirley’s daughter Julie.  We know they are ready to welcome him into heaven with open arms.

Visitation for Ray will be on Saturday, February 6, 2021, from 1pm until 4pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave, with a eulogy at 2:45pm.  Expressions of sympathy, memories and photos may be expressed on his tribute page at www.lyndahl.com

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for Ray throughout his battle, but especially Eric Simon at the GBVA and Brandy from Compassis.  Rad also had several special caregivers from Home Instead, who took amazing care of him including Beth, Vicki, Tamika, and Shellie.   Ray also had two dear friends, Pat King and Terri Corbeille who were always willing to step in & help whenever needed. The love, comfort, and support these people provided to Ray and Brenda will never be forgotten.
