Obituary

Richard A. Ryan Sr., age 92, of Green Bay passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Green Bay.

Richard was born August 17, 1929 in Grand Island, Nebraska, son of the late Thomas E. and Clare (Murphy) Ryan.  He was united in marriage to Elaine Waskowiak on February 4, 1951, in Loup City, NE.  She preceded him in death on April 2, 2005.

Richard enjoyed all generations of his family, golfing, travel and Nebraska football.  He was a longtime member of Nativity of our Lord Parish, Toastmasters International and various golf clubs.  Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1948 – 1979, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.  Richard had worked for Union Pacific Railroad and later Chicago Northwestern Railroad until his retirement in 1987.

Survivors include his children:  Rick Ryan, Little Suamico; Mary Christine (Jim) Van Dercook, Scottsdale, AZ; Linda (Tim) Cummens, Waukesha; Steven Ryan and Scott Ryan (twins), Green Bay; Laurie Ryan, Green Bay; Lacy (John) Ott, LaCrosse; Kevin (Amy) Ryan, Olatha, KS; eleven grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters; two brothers: Thomas Ryan, Kensington, MD; William (Connie) Ryan, Grand Island, NE; sister-in-law Anita Ryan; special friend Marge Miller; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas & Clare Ryan, his wife Elaine Ryan, one sister Mary Virginia Buck and two brothers, Gerald and James Ryan. Richard's children wish to express deep appreciation to our brother Steve, who looked after Dad, allowing him to stay in his own home.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Nativity of our Lord Parish, Green Bay.  Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Father Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep with burial to take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, WI at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in Richard’s name be given to St. Jude Research Hospital or St. Joseph Indian School.
