Ronald “Ron” Paul Hetzel, Jr., 59, of Stevens Point passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
Ron was born on August 5, 1964 in Neilsville to Ronald Paul and Sandy (Smith) Hetzel, Sr. Ron was a graduate of Marshfield High School and furthered his education at the University of Stevens Point, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 22 years, retiring as an Imagery Analyst/Sensor Operator. During his years serving his country, while in Panama, he was injured in the line of duty and beat the odds after dying four times on the operating table. He was a proud and humble recipient of a Purple Heart. On February 2, 2002, he married the former Patricia DeSantis in Las Vegas, NV.
Ron was a dedicated and devoted husband and father; while his kids were young, he was a girl scout leader for Kimmie and enjoyed attending Tatianna’s gymnastic meets. Ron enjoyed watching the food network channel and looked forward to trying new restaurants. He treasured spending time with his family, whether it was playing on the Play Station, playing games, traveling or taking them on a new adventure. His dry sense of humor, quick wit, and story telling that always kept you on the edge of your seat captivated everyone who crossed his path. It was that sense of humor, a positive attitude and encouragement from family and friends, especially Justin Herky, that helped Ron through his diagnosis.
Ron is survived by his loving wife: Pattie; daughters: Tatianna Hetzel, Kimmie Foth, and Sidney;
grandchildren: Rosie Foth, Griffin Foth, Liam Wooters, and Ellie Wooters; mom: Sandy Smith; brother: Dean Hetzel; sisters: Jennifer, Lisa, and Susan; and his beloved service dog: Splash Flash 100 yard dash hammer Hetzel. Ron was preceded in death by his dad: Ronald Paul Hetzel, Sr.
Cremation has taken place and Ron will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
