Russell W. “Russ” Eichstaedt, age 82, of Green Bay was called to his heavenly home on Monday, February 14, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Green Bay.
Russ was born June 27, 1939, in Milwaukee, son of the late Elmer and Isabell (Zabler) Eichstaedt. He was a graduate of West Allis Central High School with the Class of 1957. Russ proudly served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Thailand.
On June 18, 1966, he was united in marriage to the former Pauline Kopper in Garfield Heights, Ohio.
Russ worked at W.W. Grainger for his entire 47-year career.
After they both retired, Russ and Pauline liked to take trips to Algoma and Copper Harbor or just go out to lunch together. Russ was an avid Green Bay Gambler fan and spent most of his retirement doing the team’s laundry (Pauline did most of the laundry while Russ talked with everyone). He went to every game and loved that the Resch Center was his second home. He enjoyed attending the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers games with his friends. Russ always had a soft spot for animals, especially for their cats, Frank and Socrates and Jonathan’s dog, Yelich. Russ helped at church counting the offering and was always remembering to wave at Carter and Reagan in their classrooms. He was the best Grandpa and always shared his cookies and gum with them.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Pauline Eichstaedt, Green Bay; one son: Jonathan Eichstaedt (fiancée Bridget Matuszak), Green Bay; one daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer & Alec Tantillo, Green Bay; two grandchildren: Carter & Reagan Tantillo; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Carole Colla, Milwaukee; Nancy (Paul) Mills, Milwaukee; one brother-in-law: Elwood (Joan) Kopper, Clayton, N.C.; as well as other relatives and dear friends. Russ was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Isabell Eichstaedt; one son: Andrew Eichstaedt; his mother-in-law: Lovern Kopper; and two beloved brothers-in-law: Sal Colla and Patrick McCoy.
