Sara Byrnes, 97, died Saturday evening, December 12, 2020 at Autumn’s Promise with her family by her side. She was born in Chicago, daughter of the late Matteo and Maria Domenica Giagnorio. Sara married Robert Byrnes on December 29, 1945. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1998. Sara was employed by the Red Owl Company for over 30 years. She was still doing demos in local grocery stores into her 90’s.
Sara is survived by her children and their spouses, Susan Byrnes, David (Betty) Byrnes, and Lynda (Thom) Reif; two grandchildren, Matthew Byrnes (Amanda Milliren), Anne (Jeffrey) Swanson; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brewer, Soren Byrnes, Noah, Archer and Lillian Swanson, one brother, Matthew Giagnorio; one sister, Lillian Clinton; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Matteo and Maria Domenica Giagnorio; her husband of 52 years, Robert Byrnes; two brothers, Anthony and Joseph; four sisters, Maria, Ida, Mollie and Susie.
Visitation for Sara will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S Oneida St., from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Matt Simonar. A livestream of the services will be available on the church website at www.nativitydisciples.org. Entombment will take place at Shine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
