Shirley E. Damas

Shirley E. Damas, age 86, died Thursday, December 10, 2020, at a local nursing home.  She was born September 26, 1934 to the late Bernie and Louise (Damrau) Johnson in Iola, Wisconsin.  Shirley was a graduate of Amherst High School.  On December 30, 1952, she married Daniel Damas; he preceded her in death June 23, 1988.  Later she reunited with her high school sweetheart, Jerry Holtz, until he passed away in 2010.

 She was the youngest of four children and she made sure to care for each of her sisters in their advanced age.  She was employed by the State of Wisconsin in the unemployment office many years after raising her children.  She enjoyed spending time at the cottage with her family, singing in the church choir, deer hunting when younger, skiing, tending to her flower gardens and traveling after retirement.  She especially enjoyed traveling with her best friend, Maxine Cayce.

Shirley is survived by her twin children, Susan (Terry Pierquet) Damas and Scott Damas; her granddaughter, Hannah Damas and her special niece, Janet Kisling and her family; along with many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Daniel, she is preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Kisling, Nellie Ann Jensen and Julanne Sannes.

Visitation for Shirley will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, officiated by Greg Verboncouer.  Burial will be at Algoma Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.  Expressions of sympathy, memorials and photos may be shared with her family on her tribute page at www.lyndahl.com.
