Susan (Wentzel) Zell passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022.
Susan was born May 16, 1951 to Gordon F. and Marguerite (Berry) Wentzel. She attended Winneconne Elementary School and Winneconne High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1969. Susan attended Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1972. While working as a nurse at Columbia, she met her future husband, Loren. They were married August 14, 1976. They moved to Morton, Illinois due to her husband’s job. After living in Morton for 8 years, they returned to Hartland, Wisconsin. While there, Loren decided to return to school to become a Lutheran pastor, in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. They moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana so he could pursue his studies. After graduation in 1994, they moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina as Loren’s first call. While there Susan began her role as church organist which she continued for 20 years. After 4 years in North Carolina, they moved to Richardson, Texas for 6 years and then to Lubbock, Texas. During this time Susan continued working as a nurse in hospitals, nursing homes, home health, doctors offices and finally as a clinical documentation specialist as well as being the organist for church. In 2015, after 43 years, Susan retired from nursing. In 2016 her husband retired and they moved into an RV full time for 3 years, wintering in Arizona and summering in Wisconsin and the Midwest. Finally, in 2019, Susan and Loren returned to Wisconsin and bought a home in New London.
Susan is survived by her husband, Loren, two sons: Christopher Zell at home and Brian (TaLisha) Zell of Mount Vernon, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Aubry, Alethea, Arianna and Garrett Zell, all of Mount Vernon, Iowa; and a brother: Berry (Paula) Wentzel, Winneconne.
A memorial service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 203 Grant St., Amherst. Susan was laid to rest at Bickel Cemetery.
