Ginger (Virgina Jo) Gobel, a/k/a “Super G”, began her eternal celebration on August 7, 2021, surrounded by family and friends, ending a heroic battle against metastatic breast cancer.
Ginger was born on January 21, 1962, in Casper WY to the late Dale Eli and Fannie Lee (Gatlin) Gobel. She graduated from Kelly Walsh high school in 1980, then graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1990 with a degree in broadcasting spending much of the time behind the camera capturing athletic and other college events. She moved to Green Bay in 2002 her eye for beauty and love of the outdoors led her to Mid-Vallee Golf Course, where she planted flowers and regularly played golf with friends. After many years of volunteering in the Ashwaubenon School District, becoming a special education paraprofessional at Valley View elementary. Ginger was a collector of people and adventures, and deeply touched everyone she met. Whether it was camping, driving with the N.E.W. Mini club, rooting for the Chicago Cubs, or cheering on her favorite Miracle League players, Ginger always did it with a whole heart. One of her friends aptly described her as a “salty – speaking firebrand, heart bursting with love and vinegar, artistic, red-haired in all the best ways, a beautiful friend”.
Ginger will be sadly missed by her daughter, Maggie Jo Nipps (her partner Taylor Brady), sister Rhonda (husband Donnie Brodbeck), sister Belva Palander, nephew Curtis Palander, niece Angel Crain, niece Dani Anderson, special relatives, countless friends, and her dog Rizzo. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Mickey, nephew Jeremiah Brodbeck, and her dogs Cosmo, Sarah, and Lindsey.
In lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund has been established in Ginger’s honor. Ginger’s family wishes to extend a special gratitude towards the doctors, nurses and staff at Kewaunee Health Services, Aurora at Home Hospice, Aurora Hospice and Oncology Department, Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, and to her Oncologist Umang “Batman” Gautam, for their dedication and loving care provided during Ginger’s journey.
Visitation will take place August 28, 2021, from 2pm until 5pm at Pilgrim Congregational Church (991 Pilgrim Way Ashwaubenon) with a celebration service at 5pm with Pastor Mark McAnlis officiating. Ginger requested that superhero t-shirts be the preferred attire.
