Wayne Holz Obituary

Wayne Roy Holz, passed away at the young age of 90 on Sunday, April 18, 2021.

Wayne was born on September 25, 1930 in Green Bay, WI to the late Earl and Estella (Roy) Holz.  Wayne graduated from East High School where he was gifted in Basketball and held many records in Track.  After High School, he attended UW-Green Bay where he studied Accounting. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa, as a Flight Deck Specialist.

He married Nancy Lou Wetts on September 4, 1954 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Green Bay, WI.  Wayne worked as an Accountant for many years and raised his family on St. Jude Street in Green Bay. This tight-knit neighborhood provided lasting friendships throughout the years for both the parents and the children.

In 1980 Wayne and Nancy purchased Rock Falls Supper Club in Dykesville, WI and ran a successful business for over 20 years. The restaurant business was perfect for Wayne with his easy smile, quick wit and the ability to remember everyone’s name. He was a true gentleman that enjoyed being with people. Throughout those years, his staff and customers were an extension of his family.  Friendships that are cherished through today.

From a young age, Wayne was active in many sports, he especially loved playing baseball. He played rec softball with his friends for many years and later when his boys were old enough, he coached them at multiple levels. As his children got older, golf and downhill skiing became the sports that the family enjoyed together.  However, golf became his passion.  Wayne loved the game and enjoyed playing many different courses in Wisconsin and in Florida.

Each year, Wayne and Nancy would vacation for a few months in Florida.  After Nancy passed, Wayne soon made Florida his permanent home due to his dislike of the cold Wisconsin winters.  Wayne worked at the Palmer Executive Golf Course in The Villages and volunteered at the Hope Center where he helped build living quarters for the residents. He continued with both until the age of 88. His best memories from Florida were playing golf on Saturdays with his golfing crew where there was always 100% chance of fun and crazy stories.

For the last 18 months, he lived with his sons’ families and enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Susan) and Gregg (Ann); grandchildren: Jessica Johnson (Phil), Jeremy Holz (Emily) and Cooper Holz; great grandchildren Greyleigh, Porter and David. He is further survived by his sisters-in-laws, Mary Ellen Holz, Marilyn Holz and Phyllis Wetts.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his parents, Earl and Estella Holz and his brothers, Ward Holz and Roger Holz and his brother-in-law, Donald Wetts.
