William (Bill) Joseph Molzahn, age 84, of Green Bay, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
Bill was born in Green Bay to Melvin and Jane (Ringenberg) Molzahn on September 22, 1938. He attended East High School until his Senior year and then switched to Preble and was part of the first class to graduate in 1956.
Bill married Joan Cardinal and together they raised their daughter Jodie. His hijinks as a young man led a judge in traffic court to suggest that the service might be a good outlet for his energy. In the army, he learned the surveying skills which led to a career working for the state highway commission. First as a surveyor, and worked his way up to being a traffic engineer.
Bill enjoyed being outside. When he was young, he would camp with his family and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In the winter, he loved skiing. Eventually his father would build a cabin to use as their home base. In 1976 he bought a parcel of land on Lost Lake and built a cabin for his own family. They spent a lot of weekends there, swimming and hiking in the summer, and cross-country skiing and ice skating on the lake in the winter. He ended up hiking or biking on all the roads in Athelstene County several times. At home he had about 40 four mile routes to walk, which he did one at least once per day. He was able to walk independently until he physically was unable to this spring, due to the wonderful neighbors who would watch out for him. He only had to be brought home twice, both in the same day!
Bill is survived by his daughter Jodie, granddaughter Natalie, brother Robert, sister Janice (Robert) Asp, nephews Michael Molzahn and Andrew Asp, and nieces Deborah Geffre and Angela Asp. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan; and a sister-in-law Josepha Molzahn.
A celebration of life will be held for Bill on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at The Lyndahl Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1350 Lombardi Avenue. He will then be reunited with his wife Joan at Allouez Catholic Chapel Mausoleum at a later date.
The family would like to thank the village who kept him safe while granting him freedom to ramble, and the staff at Unity Hospice, especially Ashley, Nancy, and Holly. Jodie would also like to thank her personal village who helped care for Bill in many ways.
