Joseph R. Witkowski, 87, Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He was born on November 18, 1930 to the late John and Helen (Schneckenberg) Witkowski in Berlin, WI. On August 1, 1953, Joseph married Dorothy Wright in Fond du Lac, WI.
Joseph was a 1949 graduate of Waupun High School. He then served his country in the National Guard from 1949 to 1970. He enjoyed going to the 20 Year Club in Marinette with fellow service members. He attended the Fond Du Lac Business College where he graduated in 1950. He worked various sales jobs over his career with most of his years with AFLAC Assurance Sales. In his later “retirement” years, he continued to work at Woodside Manor in Green Bay for 20 years. When not working, he enjoyed working in “the Back 40” at home. Joseph is known to many in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin as Santa, whom he played for over 40 years.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Paul Witkowski, Ann (Tom) England, Lori (Duane) Nelson and Kathy (Erik) Villarreal; grandchildren, Dustin (Kedren) and Kyle Witkowski, Kaylene Wellman, Kathy (Dominic) Wyckoff, Ethan and Sarah Nelson, Danielle, Bryce and Melony Villarreal; sisters, Mary Heiling, Rita Witkowski, Donna (Harold) Smith and Joyce (special friend, Jean Kant) Witkowski; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his brothers, Steve, Carl, Ted, Leo, Larry and Clarence.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Drive, from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
